What is CONFOTUR?
It is the Dominican Republic's Tourism Promotion Council, created by Law 158-01. It classifies tourism projects in areas such as Cap Cana and grants them tax exemptions to encourage investment.
What benefits can a buyer get?
In a classified project, a unit buyer may be eligible, depending on the project's resolution, for:
- Exemption from the 3% real estate transfer tax on the first purchase.
- Exemption from the real estate property tax (IPI) for the period set by law, up to 15 years from completion of construction.
Do all projects have CONFOTUR?
No. Each project has its own classification, with specific terms and deadlines. That's why I always verify a project's current resolution before presenting a unit to you.
Has anything changed recently?
A 2026 reform limits combining more than one incentive regime for the same activity. CONFOTUR benefits remain in force, but each case should be reviewed with a lawyer.
